Fulmaire

For sea and river kayakers, canoeists and paddleboarders

Every stretch of water you have paddled, on one chart.

No watch needed: record a paddle on your phone, or add one from your watch. See the water you covered, the islands you rounded, and where you were the first person ever to record. Where you launch stays hidden, and nothing goes public until six hours after you land.

You're in another app's browser. Google doesn't let anyone sign in here, so use your email: Fulmaire sends you a six-digit code. To use Google, open this page in your own browser from the menu at the top of the screen.

Fulmaire is in beta. Anyone can join, and every file you add is kept. Tell us what you think on the feedback page.

Paddling is dangerous. Fulmaire does not make it safer.

It is a record of where you have been. Not a navigation aid, not a weather service, not a safety device.

We will never tell you where to go. Fulmaire celebrates water you have already paddled. It does not suggest unpaddled water or show you gaps to fill. Water nobody has recorded is sometimes unrecorded for good reason.

Nothing here creates a deadline. No streaks, no expiring claims, and no score that rises with wind, swell, distance offshore, darkness or paddling alone. If you find a feature that rewards going out in worse conditions, that is a bug — tell us.

Every decision to launch is yours. Check the forecast and the tide, tell someone where you are going, carry the means to call for help, and paddle within your training.

The maps are approximate and not accurate enough to navigate by.

Everything goes: your account, every paddle, every file you uploaded and every claim. This cannot be undone.

Add a note to this hex

Only you see your notes. Photos are kept without the camera's position or time.

This hex isn't water?

A track can drift over a car park or a field. Tell Fulmaire and we will look at it; if it is not water, it stops counting for anyone.

Please read the terms and safety notice. They are new since you last accepted them. Your map carries on either way.

My water

Compete for water is now on. Your water shows on the World map under your map name, six hours after each paddle and never near your usual put-ins. You hold water, appear in the leagues and count for your club. Switch it off any time under You, Competing.

Welcome to Fulmaire

  1. Add a paddle Tap + to send a .fit, .gpx or .tcx file from your watch or phone, or record one here. Nothing new to add yet? Years of past paddles go in at once: bring in your history from Garmin, Strava or Apple Health.
  2. See your chart The water you covered turns magenta on the Map. Tap it to see where you were and what you earned. Until then, tap See the example to jump to one further down this page.
  3. Join your club Find it in Leagues and ask to join, or open the link a member sends you. Your paddles then count for the club too, and once in, you can count your earlier paddles for it as well.
  4. Put your water on the World map Compete for water is on from the start: you hold the water you paddle, appear in the leagues and count for your club. Others see your map name and the water you hold, six hours after you finish, and never the water around your usual put-ins. Switch it off under You if you'd rather not.
  5. Choose your name and open your profile You picked a map name when you joined; change it any time, or show your handle. A public profile lets paddlers see the water you hold, your awards and your totals; your paddles, dates and routes stay yours.
  6. Bring in your past paddles Send a whole Garmin, Strava or Apple Health export at once, or connect a watch or app so new paddles arrive by themselves.

Journeys

Recorded in Expedition mode: a position every few minutes or more. Too sparse to know the water in between, so a journey claims the hex under each position your watch kept. If you know the way you went between two of them, tap the journey on the map and draw it in. Tap one to see it.

Your usual put-ins. Tick Public slipway for a busy public launch that says nothing about where you live, and the water round it shows on the World map. Leave it unticked for anywhere near home.

Saved on this device only. Shared cards and the printed chart stay on light chart paper.

No club trips yet. A trip is planned on a club's page, and everyone in the club can see it there and say they are going.

Translations are new, and anything not translated yet shows in English. Place names are shown as each country's own map names them.

They say how many and which club, never a person's name or a place, because they show on your lock screen. At most one of each kind an hour, and nothing between 10pm and 7am: those wait until morning.

A connected app sends each new paddle here as soon as your watch syncs. Disconnecting stops new ones; paddles already here stay.
